“Hedgewitch” by Skye McKenna.

Cassie Morgan hasn’t seen her Mum for seven years. Determined to know what has happened to her, Cassie runs away from school. However, her plans are quickly ambushed by a rowdy group of goblins but thankfully a talking cat and a flying broom save her. Starting anew in the small town of Hedgeley with her aunt, the Hedgewitch, Cassie starts feeling excited about life again. But Cassie hasn’t forgotten about her Mum and what is lurking in the Hedge?
